Thanks so much!

I thank everyone for helping me this cookie season.  For being in the 1000+ club, I went to a dolphin tour yesterday, and the cookie dinner is on May 29th.  Don't be proud of me, thank yourself for helping!

Almost to 1000!

I'm almost at the 1000 cookie club, with 946 thanks to people like you!  I want to thank everyone so much.  My friend I've known since I was three come by to say hi, and she also bought 6 boxes; 2 to the military, a Thin Mint, a Caramel deLite, a Thanks-a-Lot, and a Mango Creme.

Fun fact of the day:  Sugar Cookies were the first GS cookie!  Another way Juilette Gordon Low made money for Girl Scouts was by selling her pearls.  I did a biography on her in 6th grade, so I know a lot about Juilette Gordon Low.

Fun facts from theweek.com!

1. The first Girl Scout cookies were sold in Muskogee, Oklahoma, in 1917, when troops baked cookies and sold them in high schools as a service project. These pioneers had no idea what they had just unleashed on the United States.

2. The ingredients for a Girl Scout cookie were very simple in 1922: Butter, sugar, eggs, milk, vanilla, flour, salt, and baking powder. That's a far cry from today's exotic Mango Crèmes with Nutrifusion, which feature a food concentrate made with shitake mushrooms. (Anyone want to bet these won't make a return appearance in 2014?)

3. In 1933, you could get a box of 44 cookies for just 23 cents.

4. Life was rough in the early 1940s; not only was there a world war raging, but there were also no Girl Scout cookies to be found. Due to shortages of sugar, butter, and flour, the Scouts sold calendars instead.

5. Today, one-quarter of all Girl Scout cookie sales are Thin Mints. There's just something about the chocolate and mint combination that is unbeatable (that, and the fact that Thin Mints have the most cookies in a box).

6. Two licensed bakeries are in charge of Girl Scout cookies: ABC Bakers and Little Brownie Bakers. That number has decreased dramatically over the years; in the 1940s there were 29 bakers, and in the 1960s, 14.

7. Depending on your local Girl Scout council (and which baker they purchased from), your cookies are either creatively named or literal: Tagalongs are also known as Peanut Butter Patties; Do-si-dos are Peanut Butter Sandwiches; and Trefoils are Shortbreads. Ever so slightly bucking the trend are Samoas/Caramel deLites.

8. If hearing the words "Girl Scout cookies" causes you to salivate, rejoice; you can download a Cookie Finder app to your iPhone or Android to pinpoint exactly where the Scouts are selling.

Booth sales started! I did 4 hours at the local Trader Joes on Sunday and 2 hours with my troop at Ralphs on Wednesday (pictured with my friend Karyn).  I am wearing a Caramel deLite costume and holding my cookie jar.

Cookie Share Goal Met!

My goal of 250 boxes has been met!  With 366 boxes already sold, I'm so happy!  That's $1464 dollars!  Booth Sales are coming out soon, and I'm so excited!

Fun fact of the day: Even though only sold for three months out of the year, Thin Mints are the third best selling cookie in the United States behind Oreo and Chips Ahoy!

Go Cookie Share!

I've almost sold as many cookie share donations as the actual cookies.  I have sold 187.5 military, and 196 cookies.  Very generous people!
Mango Cremes are very popular.  More have already been sold than two years of the Shout Outs (retired cookie).  Also, all of the supplies of them are gone except for cookie cupboards, a local place to get your  cookies.

Fun fact of the day: Thin Mints used to be called Chocolate Mints.

Military Donations!

So far I have sold over 300 boxes all together, almost half of which was cookie share.  $52 more dollars came in the mail today =)

Thanks to everyone!

Friday, February 1, 2013

Yesterday many responces for military donations came in the mail.  Got a total of $360, that's 90 boxes.  I'm very thankful to many generous people that are willing to donate to Girl Scouts and our military.

More Sales

On Monday I went to my dad's office.  I sold about 75 boxes, about one third of which was cookie share.  Lots of competition now, so its harder to sell, but asking for military donations really helps boost my total.

I did a few phone calls yesterday and sold 10.

Today I called someone at my dad's office and sold one to a friend at school.

Fun fact of the day: Shortbread were the first Girl Scout cookie and you cooked them yourselves and then sold them.

First day of Sales!

Sorry I wrote this on the 27th but I forgot to post it.

Yay! Today's the first day of sales and I'm off and running.  Military donation letters have been sent.  Thank you cards are being made.  Let's get this goal of 1200 cookies to a good start!  Everyday I will try to post what I have sold.  When booth sales start, February 15, expect to see an increase of sales.  My first sale was from a friend from my brothers Cub Scouts.  She got a Mango Creme, a Thin Mint, a Thanks-a-Lot, and a Lemonade.  My second sale was from my neighbors, and they got 4 Caramel deLites, 2 Lemonades, 2 Mango Cremes, 2 Thin Mints, and they donated a $5 donation to the military which gave them a tax-deductible receipt.  My third sale was to one of my mom's high school friends from Facebook, and she got a Mango Creme,  a Shortbread, a Thin Mint, and 3 Peanut Butter Patties.
Free shipping for ordering cookies!
And don't forget about a tax-deductible receipt for donating to the military!

Plus I also went door to door around the neighborhood

Operation
Girl Scout
Cookie Share!

January 27, 2013

Hi!

I am a Cadette Girl Scout named Hannah Takasuka, and starting January 27, 2013, I will be taking up the challenge of collecting Girl Scout cookies for the military through the Girl Scout program, Cookie Share.

The Girl Scout cookies that are donated will raise the spirits of the men and women serving our country. Girl Scout cookies are one of the most top requested items by the service men and women.

I have a large goal fundraising goal for Cookie Share. Last year, our troop distributed over $2500 in Girl Scout cookies to the military. I have set myself a personal fundraising goal of $1000. I would greatly appreciate your help in reaching this goal because I want to be able to give out more cookies this year than last year to see more happy faces of the military members and their families. It was so much fun to giving out the cookies this year. The military and their families were so happy to get the cookies that were donated.
If you donate the Girl Scout Cookies to the military, you will get a tax deductible receipt, and I will include an acknowledgement of your support at our next cookie share distribution.
Below are some pictures of my troop, 778 distributing 1140 boxes of donated cookies to Marine Battalion 3/1 in 2012. I am the girl with the left.

Thank you for taking time to read my letter. As one of my sponsors, I will let you know how my troop and I do.

Sincerely,
Hannah Takasuka
